Songa
Six monks full of dried noodles performed a ritual common to most Tibetan schools of Buddhism.
Only a small number of those musical rituals performed by the Bodong-pa are unique to their tradition.
At Songa, we were amazed to hear high pitched overtones creating eery melodies descending onto the low sounds emanating directly from the throats of monks.
Before the ritual, a junior monk, eager to please our sensitive sound recording ears and equipment, met with some success in his elaborate efforts to swat a troublesome fly. Afterwards, he was deeply chastised by his elders and we were assured that the fly was only stunned, and certainly not dead.
