Journey to Porong
Our trip in Tibet began in Lhasa and took us east across the plateau to the remote region of Porong, shown below.
Porong is located in Dingri
County, in the southwest of the Tibetan
Autonomous Region in China. It lies between the towns of Dingri and
Nyalam, 20 km west of the Friendship
Highway which runs from Lhasa
to Kathmandu.
The altitude of the region varies between 4600-4900m.
Folk music recordings were made in villages in the area of
the North-East quarter of the Porong map above.
