Lhasa

The expedition recorded local folk artists, monks debating, nuns chanting, roof stompers stomping, thangkas unfurling, nangma music bars bangnig and hip hop artists dancing.

The variety of music found in Lhasa is an eclectic mix of traditional Tibetan, nang-ma, Chinese, western pop.

At the Shotun celebrations at the Nobulingka palace, Budweiser sponsored a stage hosting Chinese rock 'n' roll, hip hop, and Tibetan cabaret artists. At the same festival we also found traditional Tibetan opera, roof stamping singers, and folk artists.

The exedition shared a number of banquets with Tibetan academics; giving it a first taste of the social role of Song in Tibet. Songs are offerered by one table to another, who then respond with a song of their own. Chepta is then called and everybody drinks.

Yuemi, the great Gesar singer, listened with a smile to our rendition of Stand By Me.
